Hello readers! The publish date for this Tuesday Trivia is December 4, which also happens to be National Repeal Day in the United States. On this day in 1933, the Twenty-first Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, ending Prohibition after thirteen years and prompting many a celebratory toast. Alcohol has no doubt re-established itself in the cultural mainstream, and today there are innumerable Oklahoma bars and restaurants where patrons can find locally made brews and expertly crafted cocktails. You can read about some of the most exceptionally dazzling Oklahoma cocktails right here.
Repeal Day got us thinking about the state's own boozy history. While Prohibition might have seen its federal end in 1933, many other states still had their own state laws prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcohol. Oklahoma was founded as a dry state and the prohibition of alcohol was included in the state constitution. That's obviously not the case anymore, so what happened? Well actually, that's our question for you:
What year did Oklahoma voters finally legalize the sale and manufacture of alcohol and create the state governing board we now know as ABLE (the Alcohol Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission)?
