Celebrate America’s 250th birthday and the Route 66 Centennial with the week-and-a-half long Edmond LibertyFest at various locations throughout the city of Edmond. There’s an event for everyone—a concert, rodeo, car show, jazz fest, trivia, 5K, and more. It’s sure to be a grand time for all before closing the festivities with the finale fireworks show.

Route 66 first came to be in 1926, and it’s been an inspiration for artists throughout its time. Make a pitstop in Tulsa, the birthplace of the route, at Gathering Place to see the Route 66 Sand Sculpture Showcase. A master artist will be creating works inspired by the Mother Road with sand to celebrate its hundredth birthday.

The craft of blacksmithing dates back to more than three thousand years ago. This Saturday, the Cherokee Strip Museum and Rose Hill School will be hosting a Blacksmithing Demonstration in Perry. Everyone is welcome to attend, watch, and safely learn about this time-honored practice through traditional metal-working techniques.

For a classic Independence Day celebration, head on down to Lawton for the Lawton–Fort Sill Freedom Fest. There will be numerous activities throughout the day, such as potato sack races, picnic-style games, a hot dog eating contest, egg toss, and tug-of-war. There’s also an apple pie bake-off to find the best in the southwest, live entertainment from the 145th Army Band, fireworks, and more.

The annual Relics & Rods Car Show is back again in Wilburton. The event promises to be a day full of fun with a cookout, car show, live music, and street vendors. There’s even a 50/50 raffle and a pickle chugging contest in the day’s line-up. The night will end with a fireworks show, which also kicks off Fourth festivities for the following week.
