Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Holidays on Ice

Ah yes, the time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Not technically a holiday on most Americans’ calendars, but magic still lingers in the air. Our advice is to continue reveling in all the seasonal fun. Those who haven’t gotten their skate on yet can go enjoy the final days of Ice on the Plaza in Ponca City’s Veterans Plaza. They are open through the end of 2025, so those interested still have time to rent some skates and practice their pirouettes (or just staying upright). Ice on the Plaza is Ponca City Main Street’s largest annual fundraiser, so if you love seeing great community events in this gem of northwestern Oklahoma, come support this.
Through December 31. Admission, $8-$10.

Kicking Off the Kicks

This New Year in particular is a big one in Oklahoma, because 2026 marks the hundred year anniversary of Route 66, which is home to the largest drivable stretch of the Mother Road. Kick start this historic anniversary in the best way possible at the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop on Route 66 in downtown Miami. Enjoy live music, food trucks, and a lively atmosphere while you wait for the ball drop, officially launching a year of celebration on America’s Highway.
December 31. Admission, free.

Upside Down New Year

Those who go to the Ponyboy NYE celebration this week upstairs at the Oklahoma City Uptown 23rd Street bar and entertainment hub might see a loose demogorgon in their midst, but there’s no cause for concern. That’s because this New Year’s Ever party is going all out for the finale of Stranger Things (with the series finale set to debut on Netflix during the New Year). Come dressed as your favorite character from the series and compete in the Stranger Things costume contest. Enjoy nostalgic hits from DJ Gold Lincoln and Cozy Boys. Party starts at 9 p.m. and admission is free with online RSVP.

For a lot of fans, this New Year's Eve holiday will belong to Stranger Things, as the finale of the hit series hits Netflix on the last day of the year. Fans twenty-one and older can celebrate with other Hellfire Club supporters with a Stranger Things themed party at the Ponyboy NYE celebration in Oklahoma City.

Off on the Right Foot

Those looking to start their years with scenic views definitely need to head out to one of the many First Day Hikes at Oklahoma State Parks on New Year’s Day. Part of the national America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative, it’s a great way to check out a new park or to get in touch with nature after all that holiday excess. More than a dozen state parks from all corners of the state will be participating in the initiative. Check online for specific details on the park you plan to visit before you go, especially if you hope to hike in a group.
