At what Oklahoma seasonal holiday celebration are you most likely to see Bigfoot? Probably the Winter Wonderland in downtown Broken Bow. In the foothills of the Kiamichi Mountains in southeast Oklahoma, sparkling lights, festive music, ice skating, and nostalgic cheer make every evening here one to remember. Now that we think of it, Bigfoot is probably smart enough not to make an appearance at such a public event. Plus, they are probably visiting their Abominable Snowman cousins up north anyway.

Your family might be a little extra around Christmas time, but it’s doubtful they get as extra as the Downs family in Norman. Every year since 2007, the Downs Family Christmas Lights have dazzled the community with an luminescent display of more than 280,000 twinkling holiday lights. Make sure the Downs house, found at 2900 72nd Ave SE in Norman, is on your light-seeing itinerary if you’re in the area. Admission is free, but all donations go to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

Get your holiday cheer on with a visit to Winterfest in downtown Tulsa. It’s like a jingle-jangled carnival or amusement park atmosphere with outdoor skating, giant ice slide, carriage rides, live entertainment, and one of the largest outdoor Christmas trees in the state—bedazzled with 35,700 lights. Christmas Eve is also a Warming Wednesday, which means half price admission with the donation of a coat, blanket, scarf, etc. benefiting The City Lights Foundation of Oklahoma.

Get a heaping helping of umoja (unity) at the Rudisill Regional Library in Tulsa during the Kwanza Celebration Dinner. This event, which welcomes the whole community, marks the first day of the African-American holiday honoring the harvest and fellowship. It’s also free, so there’s really no reason not to attend.

All the gifts may have been unwrapped, but spirits can still be higher—and they will be during Creedmas at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville. Beloved band Creed will play their hits like “My Own Prison” from the late nineties and early aughts, as well as jams from their 2024 album Summer of ’99. The Okie outfit Hinder will open the show.
