Weekly Events Calendar June 24-30

Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Let’s Gogh
Bring your budding artists to Art Camp at the Darla House in Altus for a mindfully messy afternoon. Kids ages six years and younger will stretch their imaginations and master a different art medium with acrylic paint, wax, chalks, pastels, and mixed media during the three-day event. All supplies are provided with the purchase of a ticket, but seating is limited. June 24-26. Admission, $50. (580) 481-0688 or eventbrite.com.

Sufferin’ Succotash
Did Bubba from Forrest Gump ever try corn? Because there are a ton of ways to prepare shrimp, but corn is just as versatile. Corn on the cob, buttered corn, boiled corn, popcorn, creamed corn—just about any way it can be eaten, that’s how visitors can find it at Fort Gibson’s Sweet Corn Festival. Whole bushels of corn are available for purchase and visitors can sample smoked corn, succotash, and more while enjoying a summer day out. Attractions also include a water slide, rocking climbing, bumper cars, and live music to boot. June 28-29. Admission, free. (918) 770-8010 or oklegion20.org/sweet-corn-festival.

Paint Her Como La Flor
Even twenty-plus years after her death, Selena Quintanilla is known as the queen of Tejano music. Margarita Mamas pays tribute to the music legend at its Latin Night Paint & Sip at Urban Venue in Oklahoma City. Whether the artists are well-versed in pointillism or can almost-kind-of draw stick figures, this event is for every skill level. Margaritas, snacks, painting supplies, and canvas are included in the ticket price. June 29. Tickets, $35-$40. (405) 822-5447 or facebook.com/margaritamamas.

ShakesFair
From fair maidens and chivalrous knights to tales of fairies and dragons, Enid's A Midsummer Faire Medieval Fair in Government Springs Park brings its guests back to the world of Shakespeare. Guests can watch demonstrations of medieval fighting styles, arts, sciences, and dress. Traditional garb is encouraged, but not required, for participants and patrons alike. Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair for the magic of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presented free by Gaslight Theatre; the curtains rise as the sun sets. June 29-30. Admission, free. (580) 402-6732 or facebook.com.

Yogis, Yes. Bears, No.
Picnic baskets (so far as we know) are not in danger of attack during the gathering of yogis at the I AM Yoga Festival in Tulsa. Instead of running from park rangers, attendees can shop the outdoor marketplace, play in the kids’ zone, enjoy the indoor wellness room, and take in live music. For an added fee, guests also can take a variety of yoga classes, take part in meditation sessions, and hike through surrounding trails. Hopefully everyone makes it home without a…Boo-Boo. June 29-30. Tickets, free-$99. (918) 381-0828 or iamyogafestival.com.
