Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Faire Play

There’s just something about a Renaissance Faire, you know? I never tire of seeing Queen Elizabeth I chowing down on a humongous turkey leg while chatting it up with Captain Janeway, Éowyn, and Sailor Moon. And one of the best Faires in the Sooner State is happening now through June 1 at the Castle of Muskogee. The Oklahoma Renaissance Festival opened April 26 and continues past Memorial Day, offering visitors a chance to visit the fictional village of Castleton. There’ll be minstrels, magicians, musicians, and more than a hundred craft booths to browse through—not to mention excellent food, living history demonstrations, live acrobatic performances, and a whole children’s realm for the littles to explore. It’s open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and daily tickets are $23 for adults and $18 for kids—or you can get weekend or even season passes if you’re planning to stay awhile.
Through June 1. Admission, $18-$23. okcastle.com

Colonel Mustard’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

When I was in the sixth grade, I had my one starring turn on the stage, playing Fred in Cheaper By the Dozen at Southwest Playhouse in Clinton, and that’s where our first event of the week finds us. This historic and revered western Oklahoma community theatre is staging Clue, the play based on the movie based on the board game, and it’s sure to be a murderously good time: This play is a hilarious and riveting combination of murder and slapstick that doesn’t let up until the final curtain. Shows at Southwest Playhouse are 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3, and the Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m. May 4.
Through May 4. Tickets, $16-$25. southwestplayhouse.com

Rodeo Drive

I was just saying the other day that it’s been too long since I’ve been to the Panhandle. I love those great big skies and roads that disappear into the horizon, and I’m a big fan of hanging out in Guymon. And one of Guymon’s best reasons to visit is happening now, as the Guymon Pioneer Days & Rodeo lasts through this weekend. This week-long celebration features a parade this Saturday, May 3, at 10 a.m., plus a mercantile craft show, a 5K run, and of course, the rodeo itself, which will include competitors looking to earn a spot at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas later this year. It’s a great time in a really fun town. Through May 4. Admission, free. guymonokchamber.com

Car Talk

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! No, this is not the Indy 500, but there will be plenty of rumbling motors regardless. This Friday and Saturday, those in Altus will surely notice the Main Street Altus Rock-N-Rumble Car Show & Cruise. This is the weekend where spectators can enjoy open and closed classic car cruises and live music out on the courthouse lawn. With a car show, burnout contest, stereo sound-off competition, tailgate parties, food, and vendors, this is can’t-miss fun for the whole family in southwest Oklahoma.

Good Jeans

When my buddy David Bizarro and his wife Cassandra started a new clothing company out of Tulsa, BZRO Clothing, I knew I had to support them. And the over-the-shoulder bag I bought last year has added so much joy and convenience to my life that, if it hadn’t been a limited-edition release, I’d have bought more. BZRO is part of the "slow fashion" movement, crafting products that are American made and sourced and built to last. Learn more about this movement at the Selvedge Social at Brass Tacks Provisions in Oklahoma City from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Learn all about Selvedge denim, watch David do some demonstrations, and meet Jason Ross from Seven Titans, who’ll also be onsite with his all-American-made denim as well.
May 3. Admission, free. brasstacksprovisions.com; bzroclothing.com

BZRO Clothing, maker of the fine bag seen here, will be on-site during the Selvedge Social in Oklahoma City, a celebration of all things denim.
