Friday Night Frights

If you’re anything like me, Halloween season is in full swing, with decor up and scary movies on repeat. Frontier City is in the spirit too, with Fright Fest happening on select weekends this fall, including this weekend. Imagine heading in with your friends, laughing one minute and screaming the next as you navigate haunted mazes, foggy scare zones, and rollercoasters in the dark. Teens and up get the full thrills, while younger ghouls can enjoy Kids Boo Fest with trick-or-treating, games, and shows.
Through November 1. Tickets, $39

The Fringe On Top

If you love the unconventional, underground, and unrefined, what better way to spend your time than at the theater festival that defines itself as that exactly? Over ten days, more than eighty-five shows from twenty-three local and visiting groups take over three venues for the Theatre Crude festival, with performances ranging from puppetry and dance to opera, comedy, and experimental theatre. Expect interactive experiences, bite-sized performances, and stories that might surprise, delight, or even make you squirm. If titles like “I Am Going To Die (And All They Gave Me Were These Lousy Cupcakes)”, “MacDeath!: The Musical!!”, or “Robert's Eternal Goldfish” catch your eye, come on down and live life on the fringes.
October 2-11. Tickets, $15 per performance. Festival passes available.

Ghouls Night Out

Okay just one more spooky stop on this list, but this one is literally in a castle. Oklahoma’s largest haunted attraction, the Haunted Castle Halloween Festival at the Castle of Muskogee, transforms sixty-two acres into a Halloween village full of frights, fun, and family-friendly chills. With eleven haunted attractions, live shows, games, rides, shops, and food, there’s something for all kinds of guests. Hop on a haunted hayride, dare to trek through the Trail of Blood, or just soak in the spooky fall ambiance. Opening weekend is this Friday and Saturday, with the festival continuing Fridays and Saturdays through November 1.
October 3-November 1. Pass options available online, starting at $10.

Pipe Dream

If you’ve ever wondered what a whole gaggle of flutes sound like at once (and let’s face it, who hasn’t?), Medicine Park is the place to be October 3–5. This weekend, the Medicine Park Flute Festival & Art Walk fills the town center and Island Stage, with over thirty artists lining the streets with handmade crafts, artwork, and instruments. Between sets, wander the cobblestone streets, snap a few photos of the Wichita Mountains, and soak in the charming, slightly offbeat, but always in tune, energy of Medicine Park.

A Ponca Polka

It’s an Oktoberfest Gatsby himself might envy (not really a sentence I saw myself writing today). The annual Ponca City Oktoberfest celebration unfolds on the grounds of the Marland Mansion Estate, a 1928 “palace on the prairie” with marble floors, terraced gardens, and gilded ceilings. On October 5-6, the mansion’s sweeping lawns are home to beer, bratwurst, and big-band fun. More than a hundred arts and crafts vendors will set up shop alongside train rides, a mechanical bull, and a full weekend of live music. Kids can hop on pony rides and inflatables while adults sip in the beer garden or browse local goods. Oh and there’s a chicken dance.
October 4-5. Tickets, $5. Cash only.
