This Land Is Folk Land

Woody Guthrie’s spirit lives on in Okemah during the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, where more than fifty artists gather to honor the legendary troubadour’s legacy. From July 9–13, venues across town—like the Crystal Theatre and Pastures of Plenty stage—will feature live music, poetry readings, songwriting workshops, and family-friendly fun. Highlights include the all-star Hoot for Huntington’s jam and a pancake breakfast.. Come celebrate community and the power of song in the place where it all began.
July 9-13. Festival passes start at $55.

Bones, Booze, and Clues

Though it will pretty much just be adults in attendance, the 21+ Forensic Night at the Museum of Osteology in Oklahoma City lets them play detective and feel like kids again. On July 12, step into the shoes of a forensic anthropologist—handle replica skulls from real homicide and accident cases, learning to spot trauma, disease, and anomalies with expert guidance. This hands-on evening invites those sixteen and up (must be older than twenty-one to enjoy complimentary beer and wine, obviously) to explore how investigators examine skeletal remains. No bones about it, it’s as captivating as it sounds.
July 12. Registration, $65.
