Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.
History buffs are going to like this one! The Tulsa Chautauqua promises behind-the-scenes look at history during this year's five-day event. The theme is 250 Years: The Spirit of America, which is designed to educate and entertain people of all ages through several workshops and living history events under the big tent at the Museum of Tulsa History. You'll get the chance to meet several historical figures in person—like Eleanor Roosevelt, William Clark, and even Lucille Ball—and ask them questions about their lives. You can even find a recommended reading list ahead of time and show off your knowledge.
June 2-6. All events are free. tulsachautauqua.org

Everyone's celebrating Route 66's big birthday this year, but Vinita gets to do it as the oldest town on Oklahoma's stretch of the Mother Road. Vinita's Route 66 Centennial Celebration is a two-day festival with something for everyone. Downtown Vinita will be packed with tons of family-friendly fun: hot air balloon rides, art and talent shows, a car show with more than two hundred vehicles, and plenty of activities like a Hot Wheels track and LEGO contest. It's a massive lineup of activities perfect for a centennial celebration.
June 5-6. Admission, free.

They're calling this one of Oklahoma's most creative weekends. The Dancing Turtle Arts Festival is known as Stillwater's "funky, friendly arts festival" with a focus on inspiring creativity and fostering connections through art. The event showcases new and emerging artists and musicians, offering unique performances, and providing lots of family-friendly fun at the kidzone. That's not to mention all the various visual artists, dance performances, vendors, and food trucks. There's way too much for us to mention here, so don't forget to check out the website for a full event guide!
June 5-7. Admission, free.

If you ever wanted to channel Ren McCormack, this is your moment. Elmore City's Footloose Fest invites people from all over to kick off their Sunday shoes and visit the town that inspired 1984's Footloose. Fun fact (kind of): Elmore City really did ban dancing for more than eighty years. This event commemorates the 1980 prom that ended the ban, complete with dance contests and an ‘80s outfit contest. So don't forget your denim jackets and leg warmers!

You and your kids will be surrounded by the beauty of the botanical gardens as you flutter around exploring the enchanted gardens and embarking on storytelling adventures. You might even find some Fairy Godmothers with magic stickers as you explore!
