This week, more than a century ago, Oklahoma’s first female member of Congress began serving her term. Alice Mary Robertson was the state’s only female Congressman until 2006 when former Governor Mary Fallin was elected. Robertson has another distinction—she was the first woman to defeat an incumbent congressman for her seat.
