Grocery cart: Check. Parking meter: Check. Oklahoma inventors have come up with some pretty useful products over the years, but here’s one you might not know: twist ties for bread. In 1961, Charles Burford founded Burford Co. in Maysville and began producing wire twist ties for supermarket breads in order to help them stay fresh longer. Some of his other inventions included using wire to bind compacted trash and a machine that sesame seeds on top of McDonald’s hamburger buns. He might have gotten the inventing bug from his father, Earl Burford, who came up with a different use for wire than keeping bread closed.
What did Earl Burford invent in 1945 that helped make the twist tie for bread possible?
