Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Living history

History comes alive at the the Fort Washita Rendezvous in Durant. Step into the 1800s to the time of fur trappers and traders, and immerse yourself with mountain men demonstrators, stickball games, and Chickasaw Stomp Dancers. It's a day full of historical reenactments and educational activities. Fort Washita is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, so it's the perfect place to journey into the past.

Chalk it up

It's starting to feel like outdoor festival season, and Chickasha is hosting a three-for-one this week. The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma's Droverstock Music Festival pairs live music, food trucks, vendors, and outdoor fun with the colorful Montmartre Chalk Art Festival and a Scholastic Meet for students across the state. Inspired by the famous Paris art district, the chalk fest invites you to witness artists transform sidewalks into pieces of art. That's all while students compete in various scholastic contests, food trucks and local vendors are lined up, and live music is playing. You'll want to bring your own lawn chair for this!
April 2. Admission, free.

Flower power

Spring is in full effect at Muskogee's annual Azalea Festival. The monthlong celebration is full of thousands of blooming azaleas, tulips, dogwoods, and wisterias. That's no exaggeration, Honor Heights Park's 40 acres of gardens has over 30,000 azaleas alone! You can enjoy the picturesque blooms all month, but check the full schedule so you don't miss out on the Azalea Parade, 5K & Fun Run, and the Flower Power Bicycle Ride.
April 1-30. Admission, free. Registration price varies for events. muskogeeparks.org

Art crawl

Kick off the weekend at the First Friday Art Crawl in the Tulsa Arts District. Galleries, studios and shops open their doors, and some stay open late, for an evening of art and music throughout Downtown Tulsa. Browse and buy local art on display at the various businesses, and maybe explore a couple of museums and galleries, which will offer free or reduced admission. Expect live performances and maybe even a few fireworks. This event has been a monthly staple for eighteen years, and it's still some Tulsans' favorite way to spend a Friday night.

Good nature

If you really, really want to celebrate spring, FloraFest at Choctaw Creek Park in Choctaw might be the perfect place to do it. This festival is a celebration of Arbor Day, Earth Day, and the beginning of spring gardening season all rolled into one super festival. FloraFest highlights the essential roles of each part of our ecosystem with expert speakers and a diverse selection of vendors. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just want to learn a little more about Mother Nature, you'll find plenty of inspiration and maybe something to bring home.
