Circle Cinema in Tulsa hasn’t just been a great place to watch movies made by folks outside of Oklahoma for the past ninety-seven years. During the annual Circle Cinema Film Fest, the theater brings in a cadre of Okie creatives and the projects they poured their hearts into. This year, film buffs can watch a short film about a couple who survives a serial killer, a Cherokee-language thriller about the Deer Woman, a Tulsa-style parody of the Real Housewives, and more films, shorts, and panels.

There are approximately 17,000 citizens enrolled in the Comanche Nation. For them, and the hundreds more who visit each year, the Comanche Nation Homecoming Powwow is a way to celebrate the thriving culture of The People (the translation of the name they call themselves). At Sultan Park in Walters, there will be traditional singers; Gourd, War, and Grass Dances; a drum contest; an appearance by Comanche Homecoming Princess Hannah Rose Owens; and plenty more to honor the Lords of the Plains.

It’s just like Oklahomans to take something devastating and find a reason to celebrate. Sayre's The Dust Bowl Days Farm & Ranch Festival isn’t a grim reminder of the ecological disaster that nearly ruined the Panhandle: Instead, it’s an opportunity for residents and visitors to Sayre to gather, throw a parade, go on a poker run, let the kids run around for a bit, and remember what makes the state an agricultural icon. There’s also the Wild Plum Jam, which Pat Green and Casey Donahew will headline, because any great party needs a soundtrack.

In a world where we so often feel terrified and powerless, it can be incredibly uplifting to decide when and how you want to be scared. For those as comforted by buckets of blood as most people would be milk and cookies, Horror Con might be just the trick (and treat). Hosted by the Reed Conference Center in Midwest City, the three days of bloody good fun include cosplay contests, vendors, celebrity meet and greets—Ron Perlman, Rose McGowan, and Linda Blair, just to name a few—scary-okie, and more. There’s even a cosplay dating game for those who want to meet their own Final Girl (or boy).

There’s not really a feline justice system, but at the Oklahoma City Cat Club Show, there are plenty of judges. These experts will examine both pedigree and household felines to determine which has truly earned his or her Fancy Feast. In addition to the competitive element, The Payne County Expo Center in Stillwater also will feature vendors selling all kinds of pet gear, cat adoptions, and plenty more for kitties and their human companions.
