There won't be any beans in this chili. In fact, there isn't actually any chili either, but the Chili Bowl does contain tons of high-velocity fun as tiny vehicles—with average-sized drivers—race around Tulsa's Expo Square. Also called the Super Bowl of Midget Racing, this event brings in nearly four hundred contestants vying for the Golden Driller trophy.
January 12-17. Tickets starting at $245.

Few people have known how to tell a story like the Greeks. It's been thousands of years, and we're still talking about the marriage of Hades and Persephone or the tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice. But those Hellenic hotshots didn't bother adding music or choreography. But Anais Mitchell and Rachel Chavkin did! Their Tony and Grammy award-winning update classical update Hadestown will take audiences to the Underworld for two spectacular nights at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
January 13-14. Tickets, $46.50-$106.25.

Watching fit, unbelievably flexible folks bending themselves into inhuman shapes is entertaining, but that combined with the opportunity to learn about different cultures is something transcendent. For one night only, Afrique en Cirque will dazzle audience members at Oklahoma City Community College with acrobatic feats and traditional dance set to hypnotizing West African music.
January 13. Tickets, $40-$75.

The grass may be greener on the other side, but who cares about that when the grass at Sequoyah State Park in Wagoner is blue—at least for one weekend. During the Western Hills Bluegrass Festival, talented musicians showcase their fiddle, banjo, guitar, and other sonic chops. There also are workshops for those who'd like to improve their picking (the grinning part will come naturally).
January 15-17. Tickets, $15-$50.

It's a tale as old as time—well, since the invention of the automobile (probably). Big truck smash little car. Little car goes crunch. Crowd cheers. Everyone is happy. After the Duncan Monster Truck Wars, Stephens County Fairgrounds will be littered with the corpses of demolished cars, and the echoes of joyous abandon will reverberate for as long as the smell of gasoline lingers in the air.
January 17. Tickets, $30-$125.
