Panhandle Pioneers

Oklahoma is no stranger to a rodeo here and there, but the Pioneer Days PRCA Rodeo in Guymon just might be the granddaddy of them all. This week-long showdown of cowboys and bull riders has so many events you might not be able to see it all, but you can certainly try. Witness bronc riders, barrel racers, steer wrestling, and more. There will also be plenty of food to indulge in. April 26-May 2. Tickets, Free-$20. (580) 338-3376 or guymonokchamber.com

Lunch on Wheels

Hangriness is a combination of hunger and anger that can reduce the most dignified of adults into screaming, sobbing messes. Avoid that fate at Guthrie Green's Food Truck Wednesdays, which combines good food with a lot of fun. Enjoy the outdoors while eating from some of the best local food trucks around. There will also be live music for entertainment as you dine and the fresh air might be just what you need to power through the rest of your Wednesday. Skip the packed lunch and take a much needed break. April 28. Admission, Free. (918) 574-2421 or guthriegreen.com

Battle of the Bands

Since 1932, the Tri-State Music Festival has attracted band students from across and outside the state, with musicians coming in from Texas and Kansas, as well. This is an educational experience for students and a rousing competition in front of live audiences. Anyone who appreciates the precision and artistry of marching bands should make sure to stop by this Enid tradition. April 28-30. Admission, Free. (580) 237-4964 or tristatemusicfestival.com

Red Dirt Fest

Stillwater is considered the birthplace of Red Dirty country, so it's little wonder that the Tumbleweed Calf Fry Festival draws in some of the biggest names in the genre. Grab a cold beer and enjoy music from Parker McCollum, Paul Cauthen, Riley Green, and more as they bring the house down. April 29-May 1. Tickets, $35-$230. (405) 792-0009 or calffry.com

Cinco de MayOKC

Cinco comes a bit earlier this year, as the OKC Cinco de Mayo Festival makes its debut at Scissortail Park on May 2 instead of May 5. Watch the crowning of Miss Cinco de Mayo and enjoy the moves of the Norahua Folkloric Dance Group as well as international recording artists, food trucks, and a generally celebratory atmosphere. May 2. Admission, Free. (405) 445-6277 or scissortailpark.org
