Cobblestone Cozy

5 minutes

Medicine Park was founded as Oklahoma’s first resort town in 1908, named for the supposed healing properties of Medicine Creek. While that water unfortunately didn’t turn out to be a fountain of youth of sorts, the town itself has flourished, offering travelers a salubrious respite and a bit of fun that most doctors would probably endorse.

With its cobblestone walls and hot pink accents, the Isn’t She Lovely cabin offers its own dose of contradiction and a whole lot of comfort just steps from Bath Lake. Though it’s only been open a little more than two years, many guests already have stayed multiple times, including Raime Clark.

“When we stayed in November, the weather was better, so we got to sit around the big fire pit in the back, cook, and listen to music,” the Piedmont resident says. “The second time, it was rainy and cold, and we found all the games they had in the house, so we played all afternoon, which was fun.”

Clark would like to go back—no surprise given how many ways there are to have fun. Guests can watch fireworks from the swing on the screened-in porch or bask in the sunshine or moonlight while soaking in the hot tub in the backyard. Restaurants, shops, and even an escape room are just a few minutes’ walk away. And festivals throughout the year, including the Polar Plunge in February, ensure Medicine Park always has something interesting around the creek bend.

Isn’t She Lovely owner Lisa Anshutz isn’t originally from the area, but she fell in love when she visited a handful of years ago. She loved it so much, in fact, that she purchased a property here. It took two months to overhaul the cabin, and now it’s a comfortable three-bedroom, two-bath opportunity to reconnect with loved ones—a fitting role for a place that shares a name with a Stevie Wonder song about the birth of his daughter.

“People realize how much time they get with their families,” she says. “People say thank you for helping me disconnect. The stories I get are people putting their phones down, sitting on the porch swing, people -watching, going to swim, talking—it’s all about family.”

Family reunions, gatherings of widows, divorces, parties, weddings: Guests come to Isn’t She Lovely for a wide variety of reasons. In fact, since the property started taking reservations in summer 2023, there hasn’t been a single weekend that wasn’t booked. Every so often, someone will have to cancel last minute, so Anshutz says to follow the cabin on social media for updates or special deals. It’s also a worthwhile follow to see the latest photos of the place. The owner’s whimsy and creativity are on full display each season with fun and funky holiday decor inside and out.

A weekend of relaxation and inspiration at Isn’t She Lovely might not be the type of medicine that’s sold at the pharmacy, but it’s almost certainly good for the heart.
