Scenic Robber's Cave State Park is one of this Oklahoma City's main attractions.

How a place gets its name is one of our favorite tidbits of knowledge, especially when that place is in Oklahoma. And it’s even better when there are competing narratives, which is what we’ve found about this Choctaw Country city. Home to Robber’s Cave State Park, there are varying stories about this city’s name. Oklahoma Place Names attributes it to the president of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, while the Oklahoma Historical Society’s Oklahoma Encyclopedia of History and Culture says it was named after a surveyor who helped platt the town. The answer may be lost to history, but this vibrant Eastern Oklahoma city is going strong.
