Col. Jacob H. Bartles had many fingers in many different pies in his long, illustrious life. In addition to military service, he built a grist mill, a flour mill, a hotel, and—if you hadn't guessed yet—inspired the naming of the city of Bartlesville. But he's also credited with founding another nearby city when he moved his home/general store to the area to be closer to the railroad.
