Enid is a gorgeous city full of tasty foods, public art, and friendly people where visitors are equally happy to spend a few hours, a few days, or the rest of their lives. But it's also a good place to have the living daylights scared out of young and old alike during the month of October at Nightmare Warehouse. The former Goldspot Dairy is now Enid's most frightening attraction with hand-built sets, live actors, and animatronics that are not going to come to life and attack. Probably. October 10-29 and 31. Grass enthusiasts should find their way to Skiatook this week to enjoy two of the best forms of grass at the Tallgrass Music Festival. Hundreds of music lovers from across the state and region will converge on Skiatook to hear some of the finest bluegrass bands around. Listen to Gravel Yard, the Roving Gamblers, SpringStreet, and more while sampling food truck fare and setting up for a night of camping at the Tallgrass Festival Grounds. October 14-15. When people talk about "life moving slower" in the olden days, do you think they remember that once the sun set people were basically forced to sleep? Nowadays we've got the internet, a thousand TV channels, all-night pizza delivery, and phones that all double as flashlights. But those who want to remember the before times can visit the Chickasha Vintage Lamp Show & Sale to see vintage Aladdin kerosene mantle lamps, among many other varieties of non-celestial-based lighting options. See a fairy tale writ large on the stage in Studio K when Tulsa Ballet brings the classic Jack & The Beanstalk to life. Watch as Jack takes part in one of the first known get-rich-quick schemes and ends up facing off against an ogre during his search for treasure in a land of castles in the sky. Part of the Hardesty Family Foundation Children's Series, this is the perfect ballet for newcomers and fans of giant killers alike. October 14-15. Tickets, $15. tulsaballet.org

October is a month of full of tricks and treats, but there's nothing tricky about this treat—the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center will hold the International Archaeology Day Celebration in Spiro. The Spiro Mounds are the only pre-European contact Native American archaeological site in Oklahoma that is open to the public and manager Dennis Peterson will be on hand to guide tours and give lectures on this significant source of ancient information.
