Weekly Events Calendar: November 17-23, 2025

As of this writing, the weekly forecast for Woodward has highs in the 60s and 70s and lows in the mid 30s and low 40s, i.e., too cold for water slides and too warm for snowball fights, but Crystal Beach Park, which wrapped its water park season back in August, has transformed into a winter wonderland despite the weather. Until the end of the year, Crystal Christmas features light displays boasting millions of bulbs, and on Friday and Saturday nights, visitors can see the 20-foot tree illuminate Bentec Crystal Square, visit with Santa Claus, and take a dollar train ride. On Saturday nights, you can even go for a sleigh ride like in the songs, whether or not there’s any snow to dash through.

When "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" debuted in 1823, a vision of dancing sugar plums ‘twas enough to keep the kids occupied for an evening, but in an era of Twinkies and TikTok, you might need something with a little more oomph. Try a visit to Cirque Dreams Holidaze at Bartlesville Community Center, where winter whimsy comes with a little more whizzbang. Acrobats, dancers, contortionists, and skaters dressed as penguins, snowmen, nutcrackers and other other symbols of yuletide cheer will perform jaw dropping feats of daring-do—often at the same time—on garish holiday sets to a soundtrack of seasonal favorites.

New meets old at the Thursday Movie Showcase at Ada’s McSwain Theatre. Built in 1920 to showcase silent films and Vaudeville acts, the theater still hosts touring shows and screens family friendly films such as the fresh, irreverant take on Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas featuring that Jim Carey fellow the kids all love. Remember when that came out the other day in [ecks IMDB] … 2000?! That was [ecks calendar] 25 years ago! See a time-honored holiday classic in a theater that’s slightly older than that. Believe it or not, they had movies way back before the turn of the century.

“If I could work my will,” wrote Charles Dickens in the holiday classic A Christmas Carol, “every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.” Of course he gave that line to Ebeneezer Scrooge in a book where the whole point is basically “don’t be that guy,” and, man, would the unreformed Scrooge have bah-humbugged the heck out of Dickens on the Boulevard in downtown Claremore. This annual event offers a bit of holly jolly old England with re-enactors portraying Victorian era blacksmiths, woodcarvers and other tradespeople in living history window displays, plus holiday wagon rides and literal dancing in the street. Compete in a costume contest, have your picture taken with Santa Claus, and enjoy festive decorations and food. Scrooge post-ghost would love it.

Combining live music, dance, and painting, Artrageous lives up to its portmanteau as an internationally touring interactive multimedia experience when it appears at The Simmons Center in Duncan, presented by the Chisholm Trail Arts Council. "There’s art, music, singing and dancing, there’s a whole blacklight section, and there’s obviously painting, as well as a lot of audience immersion," Artrageous performer Lauri Francis told Hamilton, Ohio’s Journal-News in February. “You can sing, dance, or clap along in your seat, or there are opportunities to join us on stage, which is really fun. … I love watching people come into the theater at the beginning, not really knowing what’s going to happen, but knowing that it’s a very different show than they’ve ever experienced before.”
