Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.
Oklahoma has no shortage of celebrations honoring service men and women in observance of Veterans Day. For those in the eastern part of the state, one of the best observances to go to will be the Jay Veterans Day Parade in downtown Jay. Floats, flag twirlers, marching bands, and more will head down Main Street starting at 10 a.m. It’s the perfect activity to pair with a trip to nearby Grand Lake.
November 11. Admission, free.

The Polar Express started as a holiday tradition as a picture book published in 1985. Though already beloved by children and families far and wide, the legend of the Christmas train hit the stratosphere with the release of the Tom Hanks-starring animated version in 2004. Now The Polar Express is as much a part of some people’s holiday as ornamented trees and tinsel. Young ones obsessed with the story will love the in-person experience The Polar Express Train Ride. Board the real-life train at Oklahoma City’s Oklahoma Railway Museum for a one-hour musical trip to see Santa, scored by the soundtrack to the film. Treats, including Hot Chocolate!, will be served by dancing chefs and memories will be made to last a lifetime. Rides start this week but will continue to be offered through December.
November 14-16 and Through December 28. Tickets, $54-$79.
