Weekly Events Calendar: May 11-17, 2026

If there is a place with delicious smoked meats and lively music, just point me in the direction and I’m on my way. Well, this week that direction is towards Bixby for their Bixby BBQ’n Blues Festival at Washington Irving Memorial Park & Arboretum. While games, activities, music, and food trucks will create a lively atmosphere this Thursday and Friday, the People’s Choice tasting competition makes Saturday a highlight. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., sample the fruits of many top barbecuers’ labor and vote on a favorite.

With its large eyes, tough scales, needle-like teeth, and sharp dorsal fin, the freshwater walleye is like a little lake-bound dinosaur. That won’t stop a group of anglers from competing to catch as many as possible over the weekend though. The Canton Lake Walleye Rodeo returns May 14-17 at the aforementioned body of water. Prizes will be awarded for the five largest walleye caught, the most walleye caught over the course of the event by weight, and for the largest specimen caught in other select species categories. On Sunday those twelve and younger can compete in the Kids Fishing Derby with the chance to win a lifetime state fishing license.

Looking for something to cock-a-doodle-do this week? Try the Rooster Days Festival at Broken Arrow’s Central Park, packed with a full carnival and a variety of other activities worth crowing about. Fair food, vendor booths, fun rides and games, a parade, and 5K running event will help ensure there is never a dull moment. Keep an eye out for the event mascot Rosco the Rooster, who loves taking photos with human friends.

As Memorial Day approaches later this month, pay your respects to those who paid the ultimate price for our country with a visit to The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The touring replica can be found Thursday-Sunday at Edmond’s Mitch Park. Edmond is one of only thirty-one communities selected for the tour. The Wall was on display at Lee Lake in Bartlesville last week.

Celebrate the Spring Alpaca Farm Day at Magnolia Blossom Ranch in Newcastle. Visitors can experience alpacas up close and feel their soft fleece. The family-friendly event will also feature alpaca displays, fiber demonstrations, and opportunities to learn about raising and breeding alpacas. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch while enjoying the ranch atmosphere. A ranch store stocked with alpaca products and optional activities, including felted art workshops and alpaca feed cups, will also be available during the celebration.
