Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.
There is a Tulsa tradition that proves a little lemonade stand can make a giant difference in a community. The Lemon-Aid Project returns to T-Town this week, and hundreds of area youths will be slinging the classic taste of summer for a good cause, specifically the Tulsa Changemakers organization. What started twenty-five years ago as a single stand now will feature dozens across multiple venues in the city. The Lemon-Aid kickoff event will be held Friday at Mother from 3 to 7 p.m. Find a list of satellite stands elsewhere in the city on their website.
August 28-September 1. Lemonade prices vary.

It might be the biggest camping music festival in Oklahoma, and it’s back for another year. Rocklahoma returns to Pryor for three days of RVs, motorcycles, drink coolers, and really loud music. Headliners this year include Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, and Shinedown, though dozens of acts will appear across the event’s three stages this Labor Day Weekend. Remember, you’re never too rock and roll for sunscreen.
August 29-31. Single day passes, $109.

We all have the next great American novel in us somewhere. The hard part is getting it out of us. The first step in that process might be attending a session at this week’s WriterCon in Oklahoma City. Held at the historic Skirvin Hilton hotel (not a bad setting for your novel actually), attendees can glean insight into genre, prose, editing, publishing, marketing, workflow, and more, while also attending round table conversations, keynote addresses, feedback sessions, and other activities. We’d say to take notes, but most people going probably won’t need the reminder.
August 21-September 1. Registration starts at $499.

The blues are big again thanks to the popularity of the new Sinners movie. If you’re looking for several nights of blues and blues-adjacent music without the risk of encountering any soul-snatching vampires, then The Blues Ball is for you. Held in picturesque Medicine Park at the Town Center Mainstage, enjoy live music, dancing, an open-air breeze, and plenty of beer for sale at the oldest annual music festival in a town known for hosting a good party.
August 29-31. Admission, free.

Hold on to those handlebars and watch your supply of bear oil, because we’re heading to a facial hair haven: the Henryetta Beard & Stache Competition. Occurring Saturday, August 30, at Henryetta’s Briefcase Event Center, men with dazzling chinstraps and lip warmers will compete for prizes and recognition. A great every for competitors and people watchers alike. Entry is free but donations to Henryetta’s Veterans of Foreign Wars are encouraged. While you’re in town, enjoy the Smoking Hot Vintage Car Show downtown and the Jim Shoulders Living Legends Rodeo at Historic Nichols Park all on that same day.
August 30. Admission, free. Donation encouraged.
