Weekly Events Calendar, April 3-9, 2023

5 minutes

Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.

Step Lightly

They're not mad. They're not even disappointed. Well, they might be if you don't show up at the Bartlesville Community Center for Broadway in Bartlesville Presents: STOMP, the internationally acclaimed show featuring percussionists making music with everyday objects and utterly unique creations. This is an all-ages show, but a warning to parents: your house is going to be very musical afterwards. April 3. Tickets, $30-$75. bartlesvillecenter.com

Art for the People

Galleries and museums are great, no doubt about it. But in today's fast-paced, go-go-go world, it's hard to find the time to appreciate fine art. The City of Edmond understands this, which is why the community is overflowing with wonderful public art. See for yourself during the Art in Public Places Tour starting at the Multi-Activity Center at Mitch Park. This driving-and-walking tour will introduce guests to a variety of public pieces, including the stories behind the art, with stops for restroom and drink breaks , as well as provided lunch. Registration is required. April 5. Registration, $15. visitedmondok.com

Professionally Unprofessional

Some mistakes are unavoidable, and some mistakes are clearly malicious, but, much like TV's Bloopers & Practical Jokes, a lot of mistakes are pretty funny. See a true comedy of errors in Oklahoma City's Plaza District when Lyric Theatre Presents: The Play That Goes Wrong. It's a classic murder mystery that audiences will never forget . . . even if they don't remember the killer. April 5-29. Tickets, $25-$65. lyrictheatreokc.com

Chalk Full

The sidewalks are alive with the sound of chalking, as well as quite a few "Ooohs" and "Ahhhs" in Chickasha for the annual Montmartre Chalk Art Festival. Watch in wonder as artists of all ages and experience levels use water-based, temporary chalk to create colorful works of art. They're all there for a limited time—just until it rains or somebody hoses down the sidewalk—so lookie-loos better make tracks to the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma while the looking is good. Spring Forward

For those with a black thumb, spring can be a depressing season. The neighbors are all sharing tomatoes and squash and saying, "We grew too much!" But nobody could let that backyard patch stay bereft of life for long after visiting SpringFest at Woodward Park in Tulsa. Experts will be there to help even the most hapless flower murderer to plan a fabulous garden, along with local nurseries selling plants, gardening tools, and outdoor art. There's even a "Too Much to Carry" tent if, you know, you buy more than you can carry to the car. April 7-8. Admission, free. tulsagardencenter.org
