Weekly Events Calendar: February 16-22, 2026

A favorite annual event for jazz heads all across the state is the SWOSU Jazz Festival, held every February. This year, for the fifty-sixth edition of the event, the festival welcomes star trombonist Andy Martin and the Stockton Helbing Trio for several performances and in-person clinics. Another major draw of the SWOSU Jazz Festival is the Big Band Festival, where university and other bands from around the region perform for judges for ratings and comments. It’s all makes for a fun weekend that dedicated musicians and music fans won’t want to miss.

There are two sides to every coin, so those who venture out to the Stephens County Coin Club Show this weekend at Duncan’s Stephens County Fairgrounds will be able to make heads or tails of all the loose (and not so loose) change on display by collectors. Pennies might be out of circulation now, but expect to spot some international currency a tad more rare than that copper Lincoln. If there’s a booth there that won’t give you change for a twenty dollar bill, it might be because their coins are worth more than that.

In August 1831, the slave Nat Turner staged a deadly rebellion in Southampton, Virginia, killing sixty-five white Americans in what Turner believed was a necessary act of resistance and retaliation against slaveholders. After his capture, Turner was held in a prison cell in Jerusalem, Virginia, where he gave a stirring confession to the white attorney Thomas R. Gray. Turner’s divine conviction in that moment is the subject of the play Nat Turner in Jerusalem, debuting this Saturday and Sunday at Tulsa Performing Arts Center. This historically-based work written by Nathan Alan Davis is a reflection on revolt and a sure conversation starter.

Hey, you’ve got to let yours truly have his moment, because this week finally signals the arrival of the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac, meaning it’s a special moment for this September 1990 baby and people born in twelve year intervals from me. So in a way it’s truly our party, but you’re all happily invited to celebrate with us at the Lunar New Year Celebration at Oklahoma City’s Myriad Botanical Gardens. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., browse vendors and food trucks and enjoy the lion dancers making their way onto the outdoor and peninsular Devon Stage. It’s a late winter tradition for all to enjoy (but especially us Horses this year).

Those who have been spending 2026 building their endurance and speed might want the chance to show off their gains, and there aren’t many more magical places to do that than the Ancient Trail Trek at the Keystone Ancient Forest in Sand Springs. Run in a 5K, 10K, or 15K event among five-hundred-year-old cedar trees, three-hundred-year-old post oaks and beautiful scenery in the 1,360 acre preserve.
