Each week, Oklahoma Today staffers comb through their calendars to find a handful of great events happening across the state. Get out! See Oklahoma! And be sure to let us know what you find, either here or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram at @oklahomatoday.
The time has come to pick pumpkins, stock up on cider, and start spinning ghost stories. I've been visiting Parkhurst Pumpkin Patch in Arcadia for a few years now, and it feels like Persephone herself blessed this place, no matter the forecast. Take a hay wagon ride with friends and family, wander the hay bale maze, let the kids meet the animals in the petting zoo, or enjoy a peaceful pony ride. There are even tricycles for the little ones (it's me, I'm the little one, and I loved them). Cap it all off by picking your perfect pumpkin straight from the patch. Bonus: this weekend, Sept. 26–28, Parkhurst is also hosting the Route 66 Balloon Festival!
Through November 9. Tickets, $10.

I don't know about y'all, but I'm at my best during fair season, taking on carnival games, sipping lemonade, and sampling the wildest desserts with antacids close by. The Tulsa State Fair returns September 25-October 5 with rides, livestock shows, Disney on Ice, petting zoos, and plenty of fried food on a stick. Since 1935, this annual tradition has grown into one of Oklahoma's biggest events, drawing over a million visitors with hands-on exhibits, live music, and booths where you might just find an early Christmas gift for your Aunt Brenda. And no trip is complete without a corndog or turkey leg (or fried cheese for my fellow vegetarians; your state fair cravings are real and valid).
September 25-October 5. Tickets, $12.

Pack your tent, cooler, and crew, because Illinois River Jam returns September 25–27 at Peyton’s Place in Tahlequah. Hosted by Oklahoma roots legend Travis Linville, this riverside weekend showcases Red Dirt, folk, and Americana favorites including Kierston White, Samantha Crain, Beau Jennings & The Tigers, Red Dirt Rangers, Mike Hosty, and Camille Harp, all under the same roof (or tent, technically). Your ticket includes primitive camping, or you can choose a cabin or nearby Airbnb if "roughing it" isn't your style. Spend the day floating the Illinois, then head back for late-night local music (oh wait, I think I'm literally just describing my perfect day.) It's BYOB, BYOT (bring your own tent), and yes, you can even bring your dog.
September 25-September 27. Tickets, $77.

Downtown Chickasha comes alive September 26-27 for the Rock Island Arts Festival. The very best artists, crafters, musicians, and performers fill Chickasha Avenue with booths, demos, live music, and kid-friendly activities. Sip from the wine and beer garden, sample bites from food vendors, and explore the Children’s Creation Station or Mainstreet merchants’ treasures. Then Saturday starts with the Rock Island Ride at 9 a.m., followed by a half-mile walk supporting domestic violence awareness and the Oklahoma Food Truck Championship, where over thirty trucks compete for a grand prize. With art this good and a town this charming, Chickasha sure knows how to throw a "rockin'" weekend.
September 26-September 27. Tickets, free.

It’s late September in Oklahoma, which means neighborhood festivals galore. Head to Historic Capitol Hill for the annual Fiestas de las Americas with a weekend of activities, entertainment, and family fun. Start with the 5K Family Fun Run, then watch the Parade of the Americas along Southwest 25th Street. Kids can enjoy inflatables, face painting, crafts, and train rides at the Friend of Fiestas Kid's Zone. Browse local art and sample festival favorites like tacos, funnel cakes, and corn dogs. Live music and dancers bring color to the streets, and the brand new Plaza Calle Dos Cinco (literally brand new; its ribbon cutting is the same week!) adds an extra reason to celebrate.
September 27. Tickets, free.
