Oklahoman of the Year
Since 1992, Oklahoma Today has had the unique honor of bestowing the Oklahoman of the Year award to this state’s biggest heroes. Membership in this exclusive club of Oklahomans is shared by stratospheric country stars and red-earth originals alike. Each has contributed something great and enduring to this state, and each is immortalized in the January/February issue of Oklahoma Today.

Mike Larsen, 2006
According to legend, Native Americans refused to be photographed out of a belief that the image could steal their souls. Chickasaw artist Mike Larsen, then, is in the business of painting souls.
